Students triumph over Staff at Football

The annual Student verses Staff football challenge took place on Monday 20th July 2015, with a resounding victory for the students. The student team comprised of many nationalities and both boys and girls playing.

Match Report
It was a windy day with a cloudy sky, but this did not deter the players. After a quick warm-up the match kicked off. The staff, with the advantage of the sloping pitch and the wind at their backs, soon scored the first goal, which was quickly followed by a second and a third goal. The students fought back with two quick goals before half time.

The second half saw the students excel, as they now had the advantage of the sloping pitch and the wind was even stronger, helping the defenders clear their goal area and quickly moving the ball to the forwards. Goals started rolling in and before the staff woke up in the second half they were 4 - 3 down. A sterling rally by the staff saw the game tied at 4-4, but cleaver substitutions and rotation of the student squad players, combined with higher endurance levels and fancy foot skills enabled the students to pull away to a 7-4 lead. The staff managed to pull a goal back and then Antoni clashed with a defender (Megan) and down he went, but no fear - with a quick rub of the old magic sponge (known to cure all football injuries in the past) he jumped up, totally revitalized, and instantly made the pass that clinched the match with a final score of 8-5.

Is the magic sponge an old wives tale?

WELL DONE THE STUDENTS
